myIT Tip of The Week

myIT Tip of The Week

Oops! Wait! Come Back!

We’ve all done it: “Please see attached form” with nothing attached to the email, or we’ve noticed we’ve selected the wrong recipient right after the email was sent. Did you know that you can undo that pesky typo by recalling the email? It’s easy in Outlook 2016.

All you need to do is open the email you wish to retrieve and select Actions, which appears in the right hand corner of Move on the ribbon.

After that the Recall this Message box will appear. You’ll get two options, Delete unread copies of this message, or Delete unread copies and replace with new message. Pick whichever seems most suitable to your situation. Below is a checkbox which will allow you to be notified when the email is successfully retrieved.

The important thing to remember is to act fast. Email can only be recalled before it has been read. It also has to be an emporia.edu email who received the message.  Once it is outside of the Emporia.edu domain, it cannot be recalled.

For further training in Outlook, Office and other IT subjects be sure to check our IT Training on MyIT. A full Training Calendar is available with courses in Outlook, Cognos, OneDrive, and Windows 10, available to all staff able to attend. As always, if you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us at helpdesk@emporia.edu, or by phone at (620)341-5555.
