myIT Tip of The Week

myIT Tip of The Week

Oops! Wait! Come Back!

We’ve all done it: “Please see attached form” with nothing attached to the email, or we’ve noticed we’ve selected the wrong recipient right after the email was sent. Did you know that you can undo that pesky typo by recalling the email? It’s easy in Outlook 2016.

All you need to do is open the email you wish to retrieve and select Actions, which appears in the right hand corner of Move on the ribbon.

After that the Recall this Message box will appear. You’ll get two options, Delete unread copies of this message, or Delete unread copies and replace with new message. Pick whichever seems most suitable to your situation. Below is a checkbox which will allow you to be notified when the email is successfully retrieved.

The important thing to remember is to act fast. Email can only be recalled before it has been read. It also has to be an emporia.edu email who received the message.  Once it is outside of the Emporia.edu domain, it cannot be recalled.

For further training in Outlook, Office and other IT subjects be sure to check our IT Training on MyIT. A full Training Calendar is available with courses in Outlook, Cognos, OneDrive, and Windows 10, available to all staff able to attend. As always, if you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us at helpdesk@emporia.edu, or by phone at (620)341-5555.

3D Printing at IT

Did you know that Information Technology offers 3D printing services?

We have three 3D printers that can be used by the ESU community.  Our Instructional Designers can work with faculty to incorporate this technology with in a course.  Designers can assist in training students in a class to help them get started with the 3D design and printing process.

We also offer on-demand printing of objects that you have downloaded from a 3D design repository or have designed yourself.  If you have an idea of something you’d like printed, but aren’t sure how to get started, stop by the Help Desk or give us a call.  We’d love to work with you to make your idea a reality.

Please visit our 3D printing website at https://emporia.sharepoint.com/sites/MakerLab

More Windows 10 Fun

Thanks to all of you who attended our Windows 10 “Tips & Tricks”.  I think everyone learned something new – including us!  For example, I never knew you could ‘split’ tabs during a browser session.  I always thought in order to have 2 browser windows open, you had to open 2 sessions.  But, that is not the case.  All you have to do is grab the tab at the top and drag it away and it will open.  This is so convenient, and easier than toggling between 2 tabs or having to open multiple sessions.  The ‘Windows’ key on your keyboard, in combination with other keystrokes can do cool things, too.  Like, ‘Windows’ + ‘D’ will take you to the desktop, and ‘Windows’ + ‘L’ will lock your computer.

There are lots of other neat things with Windows 10, like customizing your start menu/tiles.   We are finalizing our October schedule this week.  Come to one of our sessions, and we’ll show you.  Sign up is easy. Go to hornet.emporia.edu, login and click on myIT.  While you are there, browse some of our other helpful documents and 'how-to' videos.
